With deepest sadness and regret we have to announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Maureen Panton.

A very special and loyal member of Poole Runners for over 35 years, Maureen volunteered throughout that time, including for many years as our Club Treasurer. She would also be seen standing in all weather conditions, on the finish line of our club organised events, as she was time-writer for our Boscombe Winter Series races, plus a time-keeper at all Poole 10ks since it was first held on Poole Quay in the mid-80s. She also manually timed many Broadstone Quarter Marathons together with our Summer Series races from when they were first held at the Willett Arms through to the current venue. Maureen was also Race Director for the Poole Runners Ladies only 5k held a few years ago.

Maureen’s inspirational contribution and commitment for our club & the running community was truly immense.

The club is sending a donation to her family’s chosen charity, which is the Macmillan Unit at Christchurch, where Maureen spent her last few days. If you would like to make a personal donation you can do so by sending a cheque to Macmillan Unit, Christchurch Hospital, Fairmile Road, Christchurch BH23 2JX

Our thoughts are with Brian and all the family.

RIP Maureen
