Poole Runners won the prestigious ‘Club of the Year Award’ for the South West Region at the England Athletics Regional Volunteer Awards held in Exeter at the end of September
The annual award was presented to our Club Chair, Shannon Evans, by British long distance runner & five-time Olympian, Jo Pavey MBE.
England Athletics is the governing body for the sport of athletics in England and this award recognises Poole Runners commitment to encourage and inclusive support for all their members in athletics and running, for all abilities, ages, experience and aspirations. Alongside, a growth in junior and senior members, the club has a growing team of volunteers, with parents encouraged to assist at training sessions with many going on to gain qualifications.
Shannon said “We are so thrilled to have won this award, which recognises the huge amount of time and dedication given by our club’s fantastic volunteers. We are especially proud of the achievements of our junior squad and the massive growth we have seen in the years since covid”.
Charlotte Phillips together with Andy and Claudia Howse, were also recognised for their super volunteering achievements & impact they have on the local community
Former Poole Runners junior athlete and now qualified coach, Charlotte won the Newcomer to Volunteering Award with Andy and Claudia Howse Inspiring Officials Award winners.
Charlotte also attended the England Athletics National Volunteering & Hall of Fame Awards in Leicester, & deservedly won the England Athletics National Newcomer to Volunteering award, recognising her committment as a club coach, team manager, event volunteer, regional councillor & Poole Runners Juniors committee member.
